Don't forget your "old school" ways

No, I’m not talking about breaking out your infamous disco moves, but I am talking about continuing to use older ways of marketing to continue to reach your consumers even with more and more modern techniques emerging.  New social media and marketing tactics are a great way to reach consumers; however, it isn’t the only way.  There are simple techniques that can still be effective when trying to attract more customers.

Passing out business cards. It can be beneficial to strike up a conversation with a person in order to inform them of your business and to spread the word of your cause.   Starting a conversation about your company can be easier if you have a business card handy to relay the important information to someone interested in learning more about what you do.  Some people may appreciate the face to face conversation and will be receptive to the information you have to offer.

Email signature. An email signature can be so much more than just your name written at the bottom of an email. An email signature can state your name, while underneath it can highlight a link (i.e. a blog) for people to engage with your company’s website.  It can also include the catchy slogan of your business to impress on the minds of those that glance at the end of an email you’ve sent.

Product sheets. This is a great way to organize information and describe different products simply and effectively.  Product sheets can be a great tool for employees to have in order to quickly retrieve information to easily communicate to a potential customer the specific details of the company or the products that are offered.

These “old school” tools are excellent to use in association with more recent tactics, such as email marketing and social media.  The ultimate goal is to incorporate new tactics with more traditional ones.  You want to make sure that you are using both sets in order to reach the most consumers possible while still getting to them relevant information in the form they are most receptive to.  The company wants to choose methods (whether traditional or modern or both) that will best reach their audience while still fitting into their plan and budget efficiently.

Great article, Lavon. We actually blogged about the same thing ("Old School Marketing... with Video?") last October. It's important to remember that old-school and new-school methods are built upon the same foundation -- even if the architects and their tools are much different. You can find our blog post here, if you're interested: http://blog.flimp.net/bid/27241/Old-School-Marketing-with-Video
